Pennywise es una muy buena banda de hardcore melodico formada en 1988. Su nombre proviene de la novela de terror de Stephen King, "It", en la que Pennywise el Payaso Bailarín es un monstruo. En 1989, en la formación inicial de la banda se incluían los siguientes componentes : Jim Lindberg (voces), Fletcher Dragge (guitarra), Byron McMackin (batería) y Jason Thirsk (bajo).
